It’s a wrap: products as environmentally mindful on the outside as they are on the inside

Since we began, it’s been very important to us—and for you—to make sure Koala Eco is maximising every opportunity to operate in an environmentally responsible way. After all, why make eco-friendly products if we don’t use eco-friendly practices as well?

So right from the start, we only used reused and recycled cardboard boxes for our packing materials. We introduced a refill option for our popular and regular-use products, like our natural hand wash and dish soap; and, to extend the benefits of this approach, concentrated versions of our formulas will soon be available: stay tuned.

Perhaps one of the things we’ve been most proud of achieving in the last five years is the introduction of 100% post-consumer-recycled and recyclable (RPET) for our bottles. When we started doing this in 2019, it felt like—and was—an incredible breakthrough for us as a small, self-funded start-up. The RPET option is usually only viable for really big businesses with massive budgets and turnover, but we lobbied hard for change.

Since we’ve been using bottles that are recycled from local curb-side collected plastic, we’ve saved over 1 million new plastic bottles from entering circulation. But that’s not the only good news. Together, Koala Eco and you—our customers—have prevented over 1 million litres of non-biodegradable toxic liquid entering our homes and waterways and being washed down the drains to the ocean. Since we started, we have also been proud supporters of 1% for the planet for worldwide conservation. We also support WWF Australia as well as Port Stephens Koalas.
