Refresh & Reset: How to deep clean every room in your home

While we all engage in maintenance tidying and cleaning year-round, a thorough deep clean pre-winter can do wonders. While deep cleaning your home can seem daunting, dividing it into areas and taking a strategic approach can go a long way towards simplifying the task.

Arm yourself with the right equipment

Swap out conventional cleaners and detergents for efficacious, biodegradable, non-toxic products without harsh chemicals. Deep cleaning and everyday essentials include our Natural Floor Cleaner, Natural Laundry Wash, Natural Multi-Purpose Kitchen Cleaner, Natural Multi-Purpose Bathroom Cleaner, and Natural Dish Wash.

Small but mighty, our Bamboo Cleaning Cloth forms the cornerstone of any good cleaning regimen; we like to keep a few on hand for every room of the house. To take stubborn stains to task, our Bamboo Scrubbing Brush offers a sustainable alternative to plastic sponges, ensuring a conscious clean without compromise.

Let there be air

Fresh air is vital for our mental and physical health, with poor indoor air quality contributing to impairments in cognitive function, headaches, allergies, respiratory issues, and fatigue. Open all the windows and doors in your home to let the outdoor air in. In addition to adequate ventilation, swap out conventional cleaners for non-toxic alternatives and ensure you keep spaces clean daily. Thoroughly wiping down high-traffic areas with our multipurpose surface cleaners works to kill germs and prevent dust from resettling, improving the overall indoor air quality.

Clear the clutter

Even the cleanest of homes aren’t immune to the build-up of clutter. Everyday nonchalance and reluctance to throw things out can contribute to an overflow of unused and unloved items. Fortunately, there are ways to declutter responsibly. Spring is the ideal time to engage in an annual purge. Tackle it room by room. Throw out expired pantry and fridge items; discard old skincare and makeup products; and donate unwanted clothing and shoes.

Beautify your bathroom

The bathroom is often considered the most onerous room of the house to clean. However, our Natural Multi-Purpose Bathroom Cleaner imbues the process with a sense of sensory escapism as it works to lift stains and eradicate grease and grime.

As grout is essential for keeping your tiles in place, it’s important not to use harsh or abrasive cleaners that may cause it to degrade. Powered by eucalyptus essential oil, our Natural Multi-Purpose Bathroom Cleaner cleans without damaging, effortlessly lifting stains while keeping the integrity of the grout intact. Simply spritz it onto all affected areas, wait for 10-15 minutes, then use our Bamboo Scrubbing Brush or an old toothbrush to get in between the tiles and scrub away stains and discolorations.

For difficult-to-clean bathroom floors, shower tiles, and bathtubs, try this tip; spritz your tiled walls and floors with our Natural Multi-Purpose Bathroom Cleaner or Natural Glass Cleaner and blast the hot water in your shower for five minutes or until steam builds (for bathtubs, simply use enough hot water to cover the bottom of the tub by a couple of centimeters). Wait 15-20 minutes. You’ll find dirt, debris, and soap scum are far easier to wipe away.

Cleanse your kitchen

Between food preparation, spilt crumbs, and culinary experiments, it doesn’t take long for the kitchen to gather mess. Everyday cleaning goes a long way towards keeping a clean home; always ensure spills are dealt with straight away and surfaces are wiped down at the end of each day. A true multitasker, our Multi-Purpose Kitchen Cleaner effectively removes bacteria and germs and is safe to use on food preparation areas and benchtops, as well as appliances like microwaves, dishwashers, and refrigerators.

One of the most-used areas of the kitchen, it doesn’t take long for the stove to end up covered in splatters and spills. To restore your stove to a sparkling clean state, remove all grates and griddles before spraying grates and range top with Koala Eco Natural Stainless Cleaner. Let it sit for ten minutes before wiping spills away with a cloth.

Floors

Whether it’s footprints in the hallway or dust in the living room, floors are typically the first area in the house to accumulate mess. Powered by two of nature’s most potent aromatics, invigorating peppermint and enlivening mandarin, a little of our highly concentrated Natural Floor Cleaner goes a long way.

Made with mandarin and peppermint, just two capfuls of our floor cleaner added to a bucket of warm water are all it takes to restore your floors to perfection. Start from the middle of the room and work your way outwards; this prevents you from tracking footprints onto freshly mopped areas. For particularly stubborn grime and residue, slowing down can speed up the process immensely. After applying the formula to your floors, wait five minutes before mopping.

A clean slate

The ideal multitasker, our Natural Floor Cleaner has been rigorously tested on household flooring surfaces, including wooden and timber flooring. A non-toxic formula created without the use of harsh chemicals, it’s effective without being abrasive, making it perfect to use on wooden furniture. Ideal for eliminating dirt, lint, and dust from your drawers, shelving units, and tables, our Natural Floor Cleaner can be used on furniture in the same ratio as on floors; mix in a bucket and wipe down surfaces with a cloth.

The little things

Once the main rooms have been addressed, go back over your home and clean the typically neglected areas. Use a few spritzes of our Natural Multi-Purpose Kitchen Cleaner on a cloth to wipe down air conditioning vents, blinds and shutters, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and windowsills, as well as behind large appliances and furniture like televisions, washing and drying machines, and beds.
