Our Power, Our Planet

Our Power, Our Planet

Go Green for World Earth Day’s Emerald Anniversary

On Tuesday 22 April 2025, World Earth Day celebrates its 55th anniversary. The theme this year is ‘Our Power, Our Planet.’ And fittingly, 55 years is associated with the colour green, in the form of that beautiful precious gemstone, emerald.

‘Our Power’ is all about renewable power, and it’s also about people power. Collectively, we have the means to do the right thing by our planet: not only in our homes and communities, but also by lobbying governments and industry to do the right thing too. The EarthDay Organisation https://www.earthday.org/ states:

Grassroots people-power has always been at the heart of Earth Day and it is the catalyst for paradigm-shifting change because when individuals unite with a common purpose, they can overcome even the most entrenched systems and industries.

The organisation is calling for a tripling of renewable energy resources by 2030, and claims: ‘by 2035 energy needs in countries such as the U.S. can be met by renewable sources, 365 days a year.’

What an extraordinary achievement that could be! This World Earth Day, let’s channel our energies to being mindful of nature in our daily and domestic routines, and to keep up pressure on corporations and governments to go green.

Have a happyand powerfulWorld Earth Day!
