Nature’s alchemy: What goes into the making of an essential oil?

Nature’s alchemy: What goes into the making of an essential oil?

An appreciation of the farms where we source our essential oils

Sunlight. Gentle breezes. Rainwater. A soil that’s rich in nutrients and free from any toxic pesticides or inorganic fertilisers. The careful nurturing by the farm. Herbs and trees that grow through the years and seasons to their full strength and capacity, pollinated by all the birds and insects unable resist the scent and colour of their blossoms. Tender aromatic fruit; leaves and bark full of moisture and sap.

Then the harvest, hand-picking if need be. Back in the shed, experienced hands and practised eyes on the machinery, the pressure just so, the processes of extraction and distillation calibrated for each delicate crop. And then, decanted into flasks, a precious liquid the colour of sunlight, while out on the hillsides nature’s cycle begins again.
