How Australian Essential Oils Keep Your Home Clean & Safe

How Australian Essential Oils Keep Your Home Clean & Safe

It’s no secret that pure Australian essential oils take centre stage in our non-toxic cleaning products. Whether it’s mandarin in our Natural Room Spray or tea tree in our Natural Hand Sanitiser, each plant-based essential oil has been chosen for a reason, with all our products developed in collaboration with a specialist chemist.

In addition to their potent cleaning benefits, the essential oils in Koala Eco products provide those around the house with a beautiful olfactory experience, with their scents alluding to their unique properties and benefits. Here are some of our favourite botanicals, and why we use them.

Eucalyptus

Loved by our namesake and humans alike, eucalyptus is like breathing in the scent of an Australian rainforest after a light shower. Minty and camphorous, eucalyptus is an invigorating scent that works to freshen any space while clearing out your airways.

Why we use it: its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and insect-repellant properties make eucalyptus a potent plant-based cleaner.

Rosalina

Simultaneously calming and energizing, rosalina is reminiscent of lavender. Subtly medicinal and fresh, rosalina is a scent like no other, working to soothe restless minds while nourishing the skin.

Why we use it: like tea tree, rosalina has a high linalool content, making it effective in treating skin irritations like fungal infections, boils, acne, and grazes. Like its close relative tea tree, rosalina is also a powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, making it a natural choice for cleaning and sanitization products. Plus, its unique composition makes it suitable for even the most sensitive skin, making it the perfect all-rounder for every family.

Lemon Tea Tree

Crisp, earthy, and faintly medicinal, tea tree is a distinctly Australian scent. Derived from the Leptospermum Petersoni tree, tea tree is native to Australia, allowing you to be transported to the Australian bushland with each inhalation of this strong, cooling scent.

Why we use it: Lemon tea tree essential oil is a potent antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial, killing bacteria and germs.

Mandarin

Uplifting and energizing, mandarin is a staple scent in many Australian households. Evoking childhood memories of fruit-picking in early spring or zesty Christmas fruit cake baking in the oven, it’s no wonder that mandarin is a calming, happiness promoting scent.

Why we use it: as well as being uplifting, mandarin is also antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, making it ideal for use around the kitchen and as a fruit and vegetable wash.

Peppermint

Fresh and invigorating, breathing in peppermint is akin to a sensory rebirth. So cool and crisp you can almost taste it, peppermint refreshes the senses, soothing nausea and alleviating headaches while improving memory and concentration.

Why we use it: its antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant, and insecticidal properties make peppermint the ideal multi-purpose essential oil, found in several Koala Eco products; whether it’s clearing your mind while cleaning your hands or resetting the mood with a few spritzes of our room spray.

Lemon Myrtle

Native to regions of Queensland, lemon myrtle is a quintessentially Australian scent, encompassing the distinctly fresh, evergreen scent Australia has come to be known for. Lemony with a hint of sweetness, lemon myrtle is invigorating, uplifting, and refreshing.

Why we use it: it’s beautiful scent and antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties make lemon myrtle one of our favourite effective essential oils for brightening up the often mundane task of tackling the dishes and cleaning the kitchen.
