Decorating with Eucalyptus

Decorating with Eucalyptus

In addition to being the favourite food of our namesake, and a powerful ingredient in our products, eucalyptus also has a place in home decor. The cool and crisp scent of eucalyptus provides the perfect sensory respite on hot summer days, while its soft green colour makes a statement without overpowering neutral toned spaces.

Part of the myrtle family, eucalyptus oil (derived from the leaves of the tree) is revered for its antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, and insect-repellent properties. A natural decongestant, eucalyptus works alongside refreshing peppermint and calming rosalina to set a soothing tone in our Natural Pillow & Linen Spray while clearing the airways and encouraging you to breathe deeply.

To help you reap the aesthetic and aromatherapeutic benefits of this invigorating plant, here are our five favourite ways to decorate with eucalyptus.

In a vase

Quite possibly one of the easiest ways to decorate with eucalyptus, a few springs in a vase can lend a striking effect to any room. Its hardy stems allow it to stand on its own and last well over a week when topped up with water regularly. For sideboards and end tables, a couple of long stems in a tall slim glass vase is impactful yet minimalist, while pairing eucalyptus with white genista in a round glass or ceramic vase makes for a beautiful centrepiece.

For a spa-like experience

Tap into the aromatherapy benefits of eucalyptus by elevating your shower experience. Simply tie a few large sprigs together with twine and secure them to the back of the showerhead (so they’re not in line with the water flow). Next time you take a warm shower, the steam will release the natural essential oils from the eucalyptus plant, working to clear nasal congestion and sinus inflammation while giving your shower a luxurious day spa vibe.

As a garland

A simple spring garland of eucalyptus is an unfussy way to add interest to more extended surfaces and tabletops. Drape a garland across a mantle top or long dining table, letting the ends hang down. Weave eucalyptus around door frames or arches for an inviting entryway.

Hang a wreath

Wreaths are traditionally considered a winter decorating item, however a fresh and fragrant eucalyptus wreath makes for an elegant addition to doorways or living rooms during the warmer months. To make a eucalyptus wreath, buy a premade metal wreath frame and insert bundles of eucalyptus (tied together with string) until the metal frame is covered. For a pared-back look, stick to solely eucalyptus or make a statement by working in some delicate, colourful native florals.

On tabletops

With entertaining back on the cards, eucalyptus can be used to bring the outdoors in, adding a welcome touch of greenery to any tablescape. Long dining tables can be enhanced by running a garland of eucalyptus across the length. In contrast, round tables or grazing stations can benefit from having eucalyptus stems and Australian natives artfully arranged as a centrepiece or around the food itself.
